The first world champion was crowned for the
JPTSR Training Centre at the JSKA (Japan
Shotokan Karate Association) World Karate
Championships that were held at the Sport Centre
of the University of Pretoria. Maj AndrŽ J. Kok
took part in five divisions. He received gold
medals in three of the divisions and silver in
the remaining two. Eight months of hard work,
training and dedication led to the achievement
of his goals and dreams. The reward he received
was five medals. In an interview Maj Kok said
that he just wanted to win two medals, but with
hard work and some luck he earned himself five
medals. Maj Kok gives credit to the fact that
the Officer Commanding of the Centre, Col P.
Theunissen, and all the staff members knew that
he was training for the championships and gave
him their full support. Maj Kok is looking
forward to the next championships in Mexico |
