3 Military Hospital for the second
consecutive year reached out to those in need.
The Pholoho Special School for Intellectually
Challenged Learners in Bloemfontein was spoiled
on the morning of 5 September 2008 with a cup of
soup in the one hand and a slice of bread in the
other.
The 504 learners vary between the ages of 6
and 20. The Headmaster of the school, Mr van den
Berg, explained that subsidies from the state
are rare and that any contribution towards the
school would be welcome.
The OC of the hospital, Col Matthee,
suggested that a huge pot of vegetable soup
should be cooked, and the hospital reach out to
the school and hand the kids the soup and bread.
For many of them this would most probably be the
only meal for the day.
Both the Regimental Fund and the Restaurant
made huge contributions towards this project.
On the morning of 5 September 2008 the
Management team of the hospital reached out with
3 large pots of soup and 50 loafs of bread –
enough to feed the 504 learners of Pholoho
Special School.
The personnel and learners showed us around
their workshops, and demonstrated how to make
shoes. One thing is for certain - they may be
disadvantaged in life, but they are very
big-hearted!
We will definitely go back to Pholoho.
