The Department of Defence is committed towards working together
in fighting HIV/AIDS, combating discrimination throughout the organisation,
caring for those who are infected and affected and supporting our
members and their dependants.
HIV and AIDS is a major health problem with a wide
ranging impact on employment,
the economy, security and human rights. In the military environment
HIV can cause loss of continuity at command level and within the
ranks, increased costs with regard to recruitment and training for
replacements, a reduction in military preparedness, increased costs
with regard to health care, loss in productivity and a reduction
of internal stability.
The DOD recognises that HIV/AIDS prevention and
control programmes are of vital importance and that HIV/AIDS poses
unique problems with regard to management in the workplace.
This site aims to provide information on how the
Department of Defence addresses the issue of HIV management in the
complex military environment.
